Bariatric surgery, better known as weight loss surgery is the specialty in which patients undergo the procedures for the treatment of obesity. It is also known as Bariatric and Metabolic surgery due to the strong evidence of improved co-morbidities together with weight loss, such as improvements in diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, fatty liver. Bariatric surgery is the only proven treatment method that results in sustained and durable weight loss in the long term. Losing the additional weight not just have a positive effect on the conditions mentioned above, but also psychology and social health of the patient. Procedures : Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic roux-en-y gastric bypass and insertion of infra-gastric balloon are all examples of Bariatric Surgery
