Dr. Chong was trained by the president of the British Cardiovascular Society at the St Thomas’ Hospital, London UK. He has performed numerous coronary angioplasties with many successful complex interventional cases involving high-risk patients with multiple co-morbidities. Some of these complex angioplasty cases include collaboration with the cardiothoracic surgeon for multiple lesions and intervention to critically ill patients and highly difficult lesions.
As an advanced coronary angioplasty trainer in the National University Hospital, he has coached many local and foreign interventional cardiology trainees from China, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Myanmar, Japan, Netherlands, and Indonesia since 2011. In 2012, Dr. Chong underwent further invasive electrophysiology, cardiac pacing and basic arrhythmia research fellowship training at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital.
Upon returning from his electrophysiology training, Dr. Chong set up the arrhythmia and pacemaker clinic. In 2013, Dr. Chong was awarded level II competency certification in cardiac pacing by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and awarded the board certification in both electrophysiology and cardiac device management by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE).
In addition to both interventional cardiology and electrophysiology sub-specialties, Dr. Chong also performs ambulatory and imaging cardiology service. He is also accredited for both renal dennervation for invasive hypertension therapy and stress echocardiogram.
Dr. Chong has presented talks and research papers in many local and international cardiology conferences and has been an invited faculty member in many local and international cardiovascular meetings. He is also a regular invited speaker in public health talks and GP talks. He was an invited speaker on the use of optical coherent tomography in major cardiology meeting in Philippines in 2014, Dr. Chong is an elected Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (FAPSIC), Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI) in the USA and Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology.
Dr. Chong has published a list of research papers in the journals of interventional cardiology and electrophysiology, including the American Journal of Cardiology, Journal of Interventional Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm.
