Dr Tan has been practising in the private hospitals since 2003. She is known for her passion in breast conservation in cancer patients. Besides helping patients avoid multiple operations, she has successfully helped thousands of patients through minimally invasive diagnostic techniques and breast conservation for breast cancer. While her patients’ rates for survival are similar to those reported worldwide, her re-operation rates for breast surgery are amongst the lowest. Similarly, her complication rates for axillary surgery are also amongst the lowest. Dr Tan’s sentinel lymph node biopsy identification rates and false negative rates are within internationally published guideline requirements.
Dr Tan has published 32 publications, mostly related to breast cancer and its treatment. The more notable ones include “Minimising unnecessary mastectomies in a predominantly Chinese community” in 2015 and a novel classification system for more than one cancer in the same breast. Dr Tan has also been an invited speaker at regional and international medical conferences and lectures occasionally at hospitals about the techniques that she uses.
