Dr Tham Kok Fun is a private practitioner in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with a special interest in Gynaecology oncology since 2001.

Dr Tham graduated in 1982 from the National University of Singapore and obtained MMED (O&G) in 1987. He attained membership in Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG, London) in 1988. He was awarded the Gold Medal in 1988 MRCOG examinations, for “best performance in all the different areas of the examinations” as stated in the Citation. He completed the official 2-year gynaecologic oncology program in London in 1992, certified by RCOG as a subspecialist in gynaecologic oncology in 1992.

He was Head of Gynaecologic Oncology at the National University Hospital from 1994 to 2001. He was appointed Associate Professor, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, in 1998. He served two terms as Secretary for the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore 1994-1996 and another two terms as Vice President, Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore from 1996 to 1998. He was a council member of the Society for Colposcopy & Cervical Pathology of Singapore for five terms from 1995 to 2000. He was appointed Chairman, Gynaecological Oncology Subcommittee of the university Cancer Program from 2000 to 2001.

His main specialty is in surgery. He has many years of experience in surgery for uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts, precancer of the cervix and uterus. As a certified gynaecologic oncologist, he does surgery for the female genital tract, such as cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries and vulva. He has operated on many complex and difficult cases. He ensures that patients are adequately and well evaluated before surgery. He looks after them throughout the entire process, from pre-operative period, during surgery, and the recovery post operation.

Dr Tham performs both open and laparoscopic surgery and has extensive experience in both methods. He believes that surgery has to be safe, as clean and complete as possible.

He has published 54 articles in local and international journals and written 15 chapters in various books. He was an invited speaker in 11 international conferences and presented papers in 37 conferences and seminars. He has organised numerous local and international meetings in obstetrics and gynaecology.
