Adjunct A/Prof. Teo is a renowned ophthalmologist, and senior consultant at Advanced Eye Clinic and Surgery, with a global reputation in the sub speciality of retinal conditions. He is also an accomplished eye and cataract surgeon with specific expertise in cataract surgery for eyes with other concurrent ocular conditions.
Dr. Teo is at the forefront of innovation in ophthalmology, with access to cutting-edge therapies and diagnostic tools due to his recognized status as a global key opinion leader (KOL) in the field of retina. A graduate of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, UK, Dr. Teo completed his specialist ophthalmology training at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He refined his subspecialty expertise with two prestigious Retina fellowships—one at SNEC and another at Sydney Eye Hospital, University of Sydney—where he also obtained a PhD.
Dr. Teo’s clinical expertise extends to the treatment of complex retinal conditions, including select surgical procedures for retinal disease management, ensuring a comprehensive approach to patient care. His primary focus remains non-surgical and minimally invasive strategies, leveraging the latest scientific advancements to improve patient outcomes.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Teo is a distinguished researcher who has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and secured more than SGD 5 million in research funding, including the prestigious National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Transition Award. As a clinical scientist with the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), his work has focused on the aging eye and AMD. His leadership roles have included serving as Clinical Director of the SNEC Ocular Reading Centre, where he played a pivotal role in the National Diabetic Eye Screening initiative (Singapore Integrated Diabetic Retinopathy Programme), and as Director of the Clinical Trials Platform at SERI, overseeing groundbreaking clinical research projects.
Dr. Teo continues his academic and research pursuits as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (EYE ACP), Duke-NUS Medical School, and as a visiting consultant at SERI. He also collaborates with pharmaceutical and diagnostic imaging companies globally, advising on innovative therapies and diagnostic technologies for retinal diseases.
