Dr LIM Sey Kiat Terence is a Senior Consultant Urologist with a subspecialty in Uro-Oncology. He is also the Medical Director at Assure Urology & Robotic Centre.
Clinical Interests Uro-Oncology, Minimally-invasive Urological Surgery, Urinary Stone Disease, Endourology and Prostate Health.
Clinical Expertise
Prior to his private practice, Dr Terence Lim spent almost two decades in public healthcare. He served as the Senior Consultant and Chief of Department of Urology at Changi General Hospital (CGH). He is currently a Visiting Consultant at CGH. Dr Lim is a strong advocate of improving patients’ clinical outcomes and safety with technologies and clinical initiatives.
As Head of Department(HOD), he started new services to improve patient care, clinical outcomes and waiting time. Under his leadership, the Department of Urology won the Department Quality Award (awarded based on objective measures of administrative and clinical outcomes) for all the years he was HOD.
Dr LIM was also the director of CGH’s Advanced Surgical Centre, a committee dealing with complex surgeries, including robotic surgeries. He operated on all three generations of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System and is amongst the first few urologists in Singapore to operate using the latest generation of this technology. To date, he has been involved in over 700 robotic surgeries and was the first in Singapore to perform a Robot-assisted Retzius-sparing Prostatectomy.
He is an appointed Visiting Consultant to CGH and is frequently asked to proctor his colleagues in robotic surgeries. Dr Lim has a keen interest in Endourological and Minimally Invasive Urological surgeries and is experienced in robot-assisted surgeries of the kidneys, bladder and prostate, like partial nephrectomies and radical prostatectomies.
In addition, he was often called upon to perform multi-disciplinary robotic surgeries.
Dr LIM has a keen interest in clinical research and has, to date, published and participated in over 40 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.
He was also actively involved in several clinical innovation projects with various universities and polytechnics while he was in the public sector, leading to a few grants, prototypes and discussions with industries for potential collaborations.
Education and Training
Dr Terence Lim graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003. He subsequently went on to obtain his membership to the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and Masters of Medicine (Surgery). In 2011, he was accredited as a specialist in Urology by the Singapore Medical Council and was admitted as a fellow in the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. Dr Lim underwent his fellowship training in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery. Dr Lim was on his institution’s Robotic Surgery Credentialing Committee and had helped to set up the robotic surgery programme at Changi General Hospital. In addition, Dr Lim was also a member of various committees in Changi General Hospital.
Medical Teaching
Dr LIM has a passion for education and was actively involved in the education of medical students and residents. He was appointed Clinical / Adjunct Associate Professor to Dukes-NUS Medical School & Yong Loo Lin Medical School and Adjunct Assistant Professor to Lee Kong Chian Medical School. He is also a certified instructor of Advanced Trauma Life Support in the Singapore Arm Forces. Dr Lim is also actively involved in the training of future urologists.
He was a member of the Urology Residency Advisory Committee and Site Director (CGH) of the Singhealth Urology Residency Programme. He is also often invited to be an examiner for graduating medical students and exiting urology residents.
Dr LIM is regularly invited to chair and give lectures and presentations at various local and international conferences and has also been invited as a key speaker at international and regional conferences.
Urology Society Involvement
Dr Terence LIM is actively involved in local urology societies. He was a founding member of the Robotic Surgery Society of Singapore, and member of the Society for Men’s Health Singapore, among others. He is currently on the Exco-Committee of the Singapore Urology Association and also a member of the Singapore Cancer Society Prostate Cancer Survival Advisory Panel.
