Dr. Yong Thon Hon is an accomplished Consultant Cardiologist with specialized accreditation in Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Yong’s journey in medicine began at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, where he graduated in 2007 with a strong academic foundation in medical sciences. Following graduation, he embarked on precise clinical training, beginning with his foundation year in Glasgow. This formative period laid a strong foundation in general medicine, after which he returned to Singapore to continue his general medical training, gaining comprehensive experience in a range of medical disciplines that would eventually lead him to a career in cardiology.
In 2010, Dr. Yong achieved the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), a significant milestone reflecting his dedication and expertise. He then advanced to cardiology specialty training in Singapore, successfully achieving his Cardiology Specialist Accreditation in 2015. Driven by a desire to further refine his skills, Dr. Yong pursued an interventional cardiology fellowship in 2018 at Imperial College London, one of the world’s leading institutions. There, he gained extensive expertise in complex coronary interventions and contributed to innovative coronary physiology research studies, solidifying his status as an expert in the field.
In his current practice, Dr. Yong addresses a comprehensive range of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart diseases, and heart arrhythmias. His expertise and skillset allow him to manage complex cases confidently, and he dedicates a significant portion of his time to the cardiac catheterization lab, where he performs invasive coronary angiograms and angioplasty procedures with precision and care. Prior to transitioning to private practice, Dr. Yong served as Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Changi General Hospital, where he led efforts to provide high-quality care to patients with acute cardiac conditions. He also contributed his expertise as a visiting consultant to the National Heart Center Singapore. Committed to advancing medical education, Dr. Yong was actively involved in training the next generation of physicians. He served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at DUKE-NUS Medical School and as a physician faculty member for both cardiology and advanced internal medicine residency programs, where he imparted his knowledge and skills to residents and medical students.
Dr. Yong is also deeply invested in fostering compassionate, patient-centered care. He believes that medicine is not only a science but also an art of healing that requires time, patience, and understanding. His approach emphasizes treating each patient with dignity, respect, and empathy, ensuring that they receive the highest quality of holistic and compassionate care.
