Dr. Loong is a specialist general surgeon with expertise in both colorectal cancer surgery as well as the management of common benign bowel conditions.
After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Dundee, Scotland, Dr Loong had the opportunity to work alongside UK pioneers in minimally invasive surgery at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
He subsequently also worked at the Colorectal Surgery Unit of the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, and whilst there, he was fortuitous to have had the opportunity to see the development of the concepts that would lead to the development of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery movement that is now one of the mainstays of peri-operative surgical care.
Dr. Loong also spent two years at University College Hospital, London, where he conducted research and developed initiatives to improve care for patients with anal warts and anal intra-epithelial neoplasia.
Returning to Singapore, Dr. Loong continued his training at the Singapore General Hospital and subsequently at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). At TTSH, he helped to implement initiatives to improve colonoscopy quality and as well as outcomes following colon and rectal cancer surgeries through the application of evidence-based recommendations.
Dr Loong has also undertaken training in robotic-assisted colorectal surgery and has done numerous surgeries for low rectal cancers with the latest robotic platform.
To provide a comprehensive approach to patients with colorectal conditions, Dr Loong undertook a fellowship at CHU Nantes, France in functional colorectal conditions such as constipation and fecal incontinence. This led to him establishing the Colorectal Pelvic Floor Disorder clinic at TTSH prior to embarking to the private sector.
With his breadth and depth of experience, Dr. Loong provides comprehensive, personalized care to all his patients. To do so, he established his own clinic, Loong Colorectal based at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore to develop his vision of providing individualized comprehensive care.
