Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic dis-eases. Arthritis and osteoarthritis are common rheu-matic disorders that involve joint inflammation. It affects and destroys cartilage, which is the soft tissue that cushions the ends of bones within joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the many different forms of arthritis, is a chronic inflammatory disorder wherein the lining of the joints are severely affected, putting the patient at risk of suffering from joint deformity and bone erosion. Gout is another condition that is a form of ar-thritis characterized by swelling of the joints caused by excessive levels of uric acid in the body. All these conditions cause pain and im-mobility.
